Fort Erie International Academy

Fort Erie International Academy

Our “East Meets West” philosophy translates into our students gaining an enhanced understanding of the interconnectedness of the world which will prepare them to be participants and leaders with an international perspective. Our crest logo incorporates four symbols: Fort, Dove, Tiger, and Pinecone, with each symbol related to an element of the school.

  • The Fort takes inspiration from Fort Erie, a symbol of strength and integrity.
  • The Dove is a symbol of peace, is derived from the Peace Bridge connecting the United States and Canada.
  • The Tiger is the school mascot and a symbol of leadership and power.
  • The Pinecone is in honour of our co-founder, 271 Education Group, symbolizing wisdom and knowledge.

Each symbol is incorporated into a shield, representing unity and strength. Red is an academic colour that conveys leadership and excellence.

Our students come from all over the world bringing with them traditions and culture that inform their experience and help educate other students on all that the world has to offer.

At the Fort Erie International Academy, we provide an outstanding educational experience that encourages our students to truly engage with the material, embrace technology, work independently as well as collaboratively, and make inferences about the world as a whole.

Our School Leaders hail from the 2nd largest school board in Canada; the highly renowned Peel District School Board, a public board serving 153,000 students. With more than 95 years of educational experience, our Leaders are seasoned educators, grounded in practical experience as School and System Leaders over proven and successful careers.

The FEIA Leadership team are the founders of our East Meets West educational philosophy. They are committed to providing high quality, stimulating and enriching educational experience for our students.

Along with a world-renowned curriculum, FEIA class sizes are limited to a maximum of 15 students per teacher to allow them to get to know students as individuals. This also empowers them to flag any concerns early in the learning process and to meet the evolving needs of their students.

Our high standards in teacher recruitment and selection attracts multitalented, skillful educators. They are all certified through the Ontario College of Teachers and are highly motivated and experienced in the education system.

Our teaching staff are trained in Ontario teaching methods and understand and implement the methodologies and pedagogy that reflect best practices in education circles today. We provide specific professional development courses to help our teachers support the learning of a unique blend of Chinese, local and international students.

Ontario is Canada’s second-largest province. Its economy thrives through its unique combination of resources, manufacturing expertise, exports and a drive for innovation. It is a hub for careers in fields like technology and finance.

Ontario has a large number of leading universities that are in close proximity to the FEIA campus, including McMaster University, Ontario, the University of Waterloo, Western University in London, York University in North York, the University of Guelph, and Ryerson University in Toronto.

Located in the Niagara Region, close to Niagara Falls, a major international tourism location and one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Fort Erie is the ideal location for international students.

Here they are able to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of a small town to focus on their studies while still being surrounded by history and culture and only a short drive to major amenities and some of the country’s top universities.

At FEIA, our language development programming prepares all students for international educational and professional opportunities. To support our international students in their English language mastery, all Mandarin-speaking students receive intense ESL (English as a Second language) support on a daily basis Our English speaking students receive Mandarin lessons on a daily basis Each International student who wishes to attend university here in Canada will be required to pass the IELTS exam. IELTS is a test developed by the world's leading experts in language assessment on four key English language skills: listening, reading, writing and speaking. These language skills are paramount for any individual who wishes to successfully achieve a University degree. We offer our International student's additional ESL support in preparing for an IELTS exam within our afterschool programming.
Unique Learning Opportunities
Our students learn by doing and enthusiastically participate in hands-on-learning, project-based learning, and educational excursions to complement the curriculum. Our Grade 7/8 students learn in a classroom with two teachers and the class consists of 50% Chinese and 50% local students. Every student participates in a mentoring program with a Canadian teacher and Chinese leader with a ratio of 4:1. Well-being is essential as part of the support we provide to ensure success. Secondary School students learn about university entrance requirements and the admission process beginning in grade nine. Consultations are held regularly with students to ensure they are on the right pathway to achieve their goals.
International Business Focus
Many FEIA students have ambitions for an international business career. With that in mind, we intend to establish an International Business Specialist program for our grade 11 and 12 students. We are cultivating relationships with top universities in our inaugural year that we hope will foster opportunities for next year's graduating class and beyond.
FEIA leverages Ontario's Ministry of Education curriculum as our academic base, providing students with the Ontario Secondary School Diploma or OSSD upon graduation. We enhance this curriculum with a variety of customized programs that emphasize the global context in all curricular areas.
Beyond The Classroom
A well-rounded experience for a well-rounded life Life at FEIA extends beyond the classroom. We offer a wide variety of after-school activities including golf, traditional Chinese painting, martial arts, swimming and music lessons including travelling concert band and private lessons. FEIA also incorporates the STEM methodology into our extra curriculum to extend learning in math, science and technology with programs like First Lego League; an interactive science and robotics program.

FEIA students have unprecedented access to Bridgewater Country Club in Niagara. Students learn the fundamentals of golf as well as the fundamentals of leadership, sportsmanship and etiquette. Through our golf education program, our students are challenged and learn the importance of perseverance.

Our students learn water safety and the basics of swimming in group classes. They are continually challenged during these lessons with our multi-level teaching concept which allows instructors to teach participants with various skill levels within the same group.

FEIA’s Concert Band is a student highlight. Our concert band is made up of many different instruments that include a variety of brass, woodwind and percussion instruments. Our band students have the opportunity to play at various community and school functions expanding their repertoire and confidence.

The Private Study programme allows students to progress at their own pace. Their success is measured based on their understanding and application of music theory and what they have learned during their sessions. Offerings include: Piano/Keyboard, Bass, Drums/Percussion, Guitar, Voice, Theory.

FEIA’s Master Classes are designed for students who have had considerable experience with a particular instrument and are looking to further their understanding and skill in focused, private or semi-private classes. These courses are open to both singular students and those who wish to collaborate with other musicians.

FIRST LEGO League is the most accessible, guided, global robotics competition, helping students and teachers to build a better future together. The program is built around theme-based challenges to engage children from ages 9 to 16 in research, problem-solving, coding, and engineering. The foundation of the program is the FIRST Core Values, which emphasize teamwork, discovery, and innovation. Students emerge more confident, excited, and equipped with the skills they need in a changing workforce.

Volunteerism And Community Involvement Volunteerism is a key component of the structure of FEIA. This emphasis on volunteering helps our students create connections with the community and to the causes about which they are passionate. When we look to the future for our students, we envision them as global citizens who are altruistic and look to make a difference in the lives of others.
