Trainees become classroom-ready by teaching international students, alongside their TESL Canada approved host teacher, in a DEA College classroom during their Practicum week using the knowledge and skills they have acquired in the TESOL Diploma Program.A World of Opportunities

To be admitted to DEA TESOL program, prospective students must meet specific requirements regarding age, prior education, English level, and demonstrated proficiency in the basic skills required for college-level work.- Letter of intent: Submission of a letter of intent outlining your goals for taking the TESOL program
- Interview: Successful interview with the TESOL Program Manager
- Educational qualification: Undergraduate degree
- Non-native speakers: TOEFL iBT Score 101 (minimum of 27 in speaking/writing, 23 in listening, 24 in reading) OR IELTS Academic 7.0 overall with a minimum score of 7.0 in each skill area
- You will learn how to write impressive essays in the English language
- You will be exposed to the CELPIP exam every week and become very familiar with it
- Learn about the question types and how to respond to them
- You will be proficient in all four components of the CELPIP Test (Speaking, Listening, Reading, Writing)
- All grammatical mistakes will be highlighted, corrected and explained
- You will be evaluated by our CELPIP instructors to determine if you are ready to take the exam
- You will learn how to scan and skim the exam texts to maximize your time during the exam
- You will enter your CELPIP Exam with confidence
- You will learn how to correctly answer all questions on the exam
Program Description:
Prepare for the official IELTS Test (The International English Language Testing System) in this focused intensive preparation program. IELTS is a highly dependable, practical and valid English language assessment available throughout the world. It is used by individuals who are seeking international education and professional recognition. It is benchmarked to international standards and global mobility.Course Objectives:
This course prepares high intermediate to advanced level students for the IELTS.- Practice reading a variety of text types. The reading tasks include skimming for gist, scanning for details, understanding text structure/cohesion, deducing meaning from context and interpreting inference, attitude, and style, completing notes, sentences, tables, summaries, and diagrams or flowcharts
- Practice writing formal reports of 150 words in length based on interpretive information of data displayed in bar charts, line graphs, tables; the stages of a particular process or procedure; and/or an
- Event/Series of events. Essays of 250 words in length to present/discuss opinions, solutions to problems, arguments including evidence
- Practice different language tasks-types through a variety of activities, lectures, role-play, games and assignments
Program Requirement:

All Application Must:
- Have a secondary school diploma or equivalent
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Students must submit proof that he/she meets all of the program’s admission criteria (e.g. transcript, proof of age, etc.).
- All applicants whose first language is not English must provide proof of English proficiency.
- Review and practice skills for the sections of the TOEFL exam
- Learn relevant vocabulary that will appear on the TOEFL exam
- Review test-taking strategies and tips for the TOEFL exam
- Complete sections from a practice TOEFL exam to see how you have improved and where improvement is required

- 60-hour (4-week) specialty course on teaching adults

Levels:
-Introductory & Elementary – Basics:
Level 1: Student will build their confidence in communicating in everyday situations and be able to express personal information, likes/dislikes, descriptions and identify items. Learners will interact in a simple way and can answer basic questions using familiar words. Lesson plans are personalized, engaging and fun igniting student interest.
Level 2: Students can introduce themselves to others and understand simple questions and concepts. Learners will communicate basic information using short sentences and phrases in relation to needs and experiences. Vocabulary through listening and speaking activities/exercises and comprehend simple directions.
-Pre-Intermediate:
Level 3: Students will learn to communicate information and express ideas using simple sentences in relation to current needs and experiences. Learners will understand the fundamentals of basic grammar structures and verb tenses and will continue to build their vocabulary bank and develop control in communicating in informal routine situations.
Level 4: Students will continue to build their vocabulary and communicate information in relation to everyday experiences and activities with a focus on personal wants and needs. Learners will develop control in communications in informal and formal conversations. In this course, you will be able to ask and respond to questions, tell a simple story or describe situations.
-Intermediate:
Level 5: Students will develop reading and writing skills to enhance communications and be able to participate in casual conversations about personal and professional interests. In addition, students will continue to demonstrate their understanding of a variety of real-life situations based on listening, speaking, reading and writing activities.
Level 6: Students will improve their English skills for academic, community and workplace settings. They will continue to build their vocabulary bank in order to communicate with more confidence and continue to incorporate previously learned structures with new ideas.
-Upper-Intermediate:
Level 7: Students will progress using an increasing variety of grammatical structures and develop control of complex structures. Learners will be able to interact in relation to social routines, educational and work situations. Fuller comprehension will be realized in relation to stories, articles, ideas, and sayings.
Level 8: Students will develop the ability to interact effectively in the community and workplace. Learners will continue to develop vocabulary and grammar structures in order to communicate about a variety of everyday topics with relative ease. Learners will experiment with new and uncommon words while speaking.
-Advanced:
Level 1: Emphasis is placed on refining expressive language skills. Students will gain control over a wide variety of complex grammatical structures and a range of concrete, abstract language. Idiomatic language. Nuances and subtleties will be incorporated into lesson plans in order to meet higher-level needs. Students will increase reading comprehension to comprehend the big picture and understand common mistakes.
Level 2: Proficiency is developed by comprehending complex phrases and verb tenses and master sentence structure. The learner will broaden their knowledge of grammar, writing and reading comprehension. Conversational strategies are introduced in order for students to understand language creativity.
Integrated Courses:
Students will develop proficiency in English in the four basic language skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. Learners gain knowledge of new environments that are necessary for successful integration into schools and the community. Some students with limited English skills may require taking introductory courses based on the school’s curriculum. Evaluations will be made on an individual basis.Pronunciation:
Practice and refine all aspects of pronunciation: sound, intonation, stress, and mechanics. Students will focus on accent reduction by studying proper English sound production, word and sentence-level stress and intonation. Through the means of group and pair discussions, dialogues and other activities, learners strengthen and fine-tune their English conversation and communication skills gaining functional communicability and increasing self-confidence through speech monitoring techniques. They will be encouraged to speak more spontaneously during class activities and presentations to improve oral communications. Program Description:
The program will allow students to gain the theoretical knowledge and practice language skills linked to reading, writing, speaking, and listening within the working context of the healthcare / medical fields. The English for Health Care Professionals program includes 120 hours of in-class education (theory and practice) 6-8 weeks. The program contains two courses.Career Opportunities:
Graduates may apply the professional language skills they gain in a variety of health care contexts, including health centers, clinics, hospitals, and medical offices of various sorts.- Credential Awarded: Certificate
- Program Duration: 120 classroom hours over six weeks or part time.
- Expected Homework Hours: 6 hours per week.
Completion Requirements:
The student must complete all aspects of both courses of the program in order to graduate.Admission Requirements:
- Evidence of IELTS 4 score (or equivalent)
- Or, the student can pass the school’s ESL placement assessment which may include an interview

Delivery Method:
This program is delivered face-to-face, in-class at the College campus.Learning Objectives:
General Objective: Competency in both practical language use and the theory necessary to understand the terminology and its context of use in healthcare practice. The program is focused on practical applications for new vocabulary and language as well as practical skills related to medical communication. Additional outcomes to this program can be offered depending on the needs of the student cohort.NOTES:
You can begin the program at any level, but you may need to upgrade your English before beginning the required University Pathway Program courses. You must begin your University Pathway Program required courses on the first day of a session and must complete the full session of your required courses to get credit.EACH ENGLISH LEVEL IS 4 WEEKS

LEVEL PLACEMENT
Students take a placement test on their first day to determine their English level. Students who test at level 9 or above may directly enter the University Pathway Program. Students who test at level 8 or below, will begin in the General English program.University Placement Services
