Canadian Language Learning College (CLLC) Halifax

The Canadian Language Learning College (CLLC) was founded in 2005 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. It has two locations open in two world-class cities, along with the highest quality online live classes.

CLLC is also recognized and associated with top educational organizations nationally and internationally and maintains partnerships with over 40 university and college partners.

CLLC Halifax enjoys all the luxuries of CLLC Ottawa and CLLC Toronto, but with the added distinction of bordering the Atlantic Ocean. CLLC Halifax is nestled in downtown Halifax and is only minutes from the famous waterfront boardwalk, numerous restaurants, and cafes, as well as vibrant student life.

The campus itself is 20,000 square feet and holds 18 large classrooms. Halifax is home to three nationally ranked universities and colleges and is ideal for students looking to pursue higher education.

General English
General English CLLC’s flexible, student-centred General English (GE) Program consists of six levels, ranging from Introductory English to Advanced. The GE program develops key skills in five areas:
  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Listening
  • Speaking
  • Critical Thinking
CLLCs custom curriculum is based on a number of ESL standards such as the Canadian Language Benchmarks, TOEFL, and IELTS. Upon reaching the Advanced level, students usually achieve a TOEFL score of 70-75 and IELTS score of 6.0, although students have also achieved TOEFL scores as high as 90. The GE program is 25 hours per week. Most students will spend 8-10 weeks per level, however, students are able to progress through the levels at their own pace through weekly start dates, weekly move-ups, weekly graduation and flexible schedule options.
Semi Intensive Program
Semi-Intensive Program CLLC’s Semi-Intensive Program gives students 15 hours per week of quality English language instruction. Like the Intensive Program, this program contains an English language skills component and focuses on IELTS/TOEFL, Business English, and CLLC’s Plus One elective class. This program is ideal for those students who need some flexibility with timing throughout their week.
Business English
Business English CLLC’s Business English course uses business case studies that are directly related to the real business world. Each business case study covers a specialized area of business practice. Participants will:
  • Work in groups to develop solutions to the specific problems posed by each case study
  • Prepare either group or individual presentations of conclusions to the problems posed by each case study
  • Learn new business vocabulary, target language, and grammar
  • Write reports, emails, and letters setting out conclusions from the case studies
University Pathway Program
University Pathway Program Our University Pathway Program (UPP) ensures students are well prepared for university life. This program focuses on time management, note-taking, exam preparation, academic presentations, and essay writing. Students can complete the UPP in any of our three cities can continue onto one of our partner universities or colleges without writing an English language proficiency exam. Students study 25 hours per week. IELTS / TOEFL Our part-time IELTS exam preparation course is designed to give students the skills, techniques, and knowledge needed to exceed their exam goals. CLLC teachers focus in-depth on the modules of the IELTS exam to make sure students know what to expect when taking an IELTS exam. Students need to be in a minimum of Level 4 General English to enrol in the IELTS class.
Elective English / Plus One
Elective English / Plus One Plus One is a class that occurs from 1:00 – 2:00, Monday to Thursday. It is a CLLC trademarked program that allows students to choose from a variety of topics that cater to their interests or academic weakness. Plus One topics change every two weeks, so students get the chance to study multiple topics during their study period.

Accelerated Program
Accelerated Program CLLC’s Accelerated Program gives students 35 hours per week of quality English language instruction. This program includes a combination of General English and featured courses. Students study six weeks at each level instead of ten weeks and therefore shortens the overall study length. The Accelerated Program is available only for students in levels 4, 5, and 6.
Family Program
Family Program CLLC’s Family Program gives students younger than 16 a chance to study in one of our partner schools while their parents and older siblings attend CLLC. This special program gives families the chance to travel together and experience an unforgettable English learning adventure. Daytimes are spent studying at their respective schools and then at night family’s come together to share what they’ve learned.
Group / Summer Camp Program
Group / Summer Camp Program CLLC’s Group / Summer Camp Program is designed for students who want to make new friends, explore different places, and create lasting memories. This program is offered in all two CLLC cities: Ottawa and Halifax. Each city offers students unforgettable adventures and social activities throughout the summer and winter months. CLLC offers special group rates for groups of more than 5 students. Customized programs and flexible schedules are available based on group requirements. Chaperones are welcome. The minimum age is 14 with a chaperone and 16 without.

Homestay

CLLC guarantees student satisfaction by offering the following:

Our own internally managed homestay program offers the same price in Ottawa and Halifax.

Over 500 diverse, well-qualified, and experienced homestay families in our 2 cities.

Problem resolution to all problems within 48 hours through CLLC’s Total Quality Management System(TQM) with careful consideration of student needs. We change families free of charge.

All financial homestay matters are handled internally in order to encourage a positive relationship between students and their homestay families.

A Quality Assurance Rating System (QARS) that ensures a smart match.

Residence

As an alternative to the homestay, students have the option of living in residence style accommodations.

Residences include single and twin rooms, common areas, shared washrooms, and 24-hour security.

Residences are offered in all CLLC cities, however, due to limits on availability, this option must be booked at least two months in advance.
